Ultrasound scan during pregnancy

Ultrasound scans use sound waves to build a picture of the baby in the womb. The scans are painless, have no known side effects on mothers or babies, and can be carried out at any stage of your pregnancy.

Ultrasound scans can confirm your baby’s wellbeing and health throughout the pregnancy.

There are many types of scans during pregnancy and you should schedule at least three routine ultrasound scans. You can have your first scan at six weeks on in your pregnancy – that’s six weeks since the first day of your last period.

We offer a full range of scans for any stage of your pregnancy whether it is a single pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy:

  • Early dating scan (6 to 11 weeks)
  • Pre-Harmony scan+blood (from 10 weeks)
  • Panorama NIPT scan+blood (from 9 weeks)
  • Nuchal translucency scan with or without blood test (12 weeks)
  • Anomaly scan (20 weeks)
  • Wellbeing, growth and reassurance scan including doppler (13+ weeks)
  • 3D/4D scan (28 to 32 weeks)
  • Chorionic villus sampling, up to 14 weeks of pregnancy (CVS)
  • Amniocentesis, after 15 weeks of pregnancy
  • Fetal cardiac scans

An ultrasound scan is considered to be a safe, non-invasive, accurate and cost-effective investigation of the baby.

If you want to be sure and not miss any important scans during your pregnancy, our specifically designed scan packages will help you be in control. As part of the package we also arrange your next appointment so you won’t have to remember when is the next one is due.

Pregnancy blood tests

A pregnancy blood test is a quantitative HCG blood test to show the level of HCG (or human chorionic gonadotropin) in your blood.

HCG is a hormone secreted in pregnancy and detectable by blood test about day 8 to 10 after conception whether you are taking a home pregnancy urine test that uses urine or having a blood test at the Centre.

Home pregnancy urine test kits only confirm whether you are pregnant or not but the blood test confirms the viability and an estimated gestational age of pregnancy and is more accurate and reliable than the urine test. It can be used for monitoring in early pregnancy if there is a suspicion of ectopic pregnancy.

If you would like to take a pregnancy test at the Centre, we will be happy to arrange one for you.

Antenatal and postnatal care during and after pregnancy

Prenatal care, also known as antenatal care, is important in preventive medicine. It is the best practice and recommended by obstetricians that you have regular health checks by a doctor or a midwife to ensure your pregnancy is progressing well and both you and your baby are safe and healthy.

Equally important is to be ready and supported for the postpartum period that lasts six to eight weeks, beginning right after the baby is born. During this period, new mums can go through many physical and emotional changes while learning to care for their newborn. Postnatal care involves getting proper rest, nutrition, and vaginal care.

Regular antenatal and postnatal care is highly recommended for all women during pregnancy and after the birth of their child.
